Courses at UWL

Foundations of Theatrical Production

A team-taught course split in thirds, with a focus on Script Analysis, Introduction to Design, and Technical Production.  The objective of my section is to make the student aware of and understand the research and collaborative process that occurs when mounting a theatrical production.

Stagecraft

This course is designed to provide an introduction to the production process in the world backstage.  Through lecture, activities, and hands-on learning, students learn the basic concepts, terminology and techniques standardly employed throughout the industry.

First Year Seminar

A General Education course newly required for all incoming first-year students.  Instructors develop a course around a topic of their choosing, but rather than focusing on learning specific content, the topic becomes a tool for helping students build their Critical Thinking, Communication, Teamwork, and Lifelong Learning skills.  My topic -- Catastrophic Failure: How to deal when ideas, structures, or YOU collapse!

Theatre Appreciation

A General Education course focusing on developing "21st century skills" such as Communication, Collaboration, and Problem-Solving

Theatre Technology

The world of Theatre Technology has grown immensely in the past several decades, with new innovations, technology designed specifically for theatre, and an incredible advance in design possibilities.  While most regional and educational theatres (including UWL) do not have the funding or equipment to explore all of this technology, gaining an understanding of the basic concepts used in this technology is vital to students' education.  This course will introduce students to the basics of applied physics in theatrical situations (particularly in rigging), familiarize you with the essentials of MIG welding, and expose you to the possibilities that are available in the world of theatre.  This course will not teach you all the knowledge and skills you need for any theatre job, there is simply too much to learn, but it will hopefully set you up to efficiently learn and process information in any technical theatre environment.
